Battle of the Burgers is back at John Howell Park in Virginia Highland on Oct. 23, starting at 11 a.m. Local restaurants will be competing to see who can serve up the best beef and veggie burgers in Atlanta. There will also be a 5K road race at 9 a.m. Money raised from Battle of the Burgers benefits Embraced, a nonprofit that distributes mobility devices. Anna’s Barbecue is now open in Kirkwood at 1975 Hosea L. Williams Dr. Anna’s Barbeque, owned by Lekesia Phelps, who grew up in Kirkwood, and Alexander Coates, serves up traditional smoked barbecue and sides.

Giovanni Di Palma, of Antico Pizza Napoletana fame, has opened Caffé Gio, a traditional Neapolitan caffé and gelateria. Located behind Gio’s Chicken Amalfitano at 1099 Hemphill Ave., Caffé Gio offers lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with traditional Neapolitan street food like fresh-to-order Parmigiano or Meatball Panini’s on crispy Ciabatta with San Marzano marinara sauce and melted mozzarella.

The first annual Atlanta Cheese Festival will take place Oct. 11 from 5 to 11 p.m. at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park. The festival will feature over 50 of the most recognized cheese and artisan food producers from all over the world as well as live Music by The Packway Handle Band and Moreland & Arbuckle. Tickets are on sale at
