Each year the city of Sandy Springs presents its Humanitarian Award to an individual who lives or works in the city and also “embodies (Dr. Martin Luther) King’s history of character and service.”

The city is currently accepting nominations for the 2014 recipient who will be honored at the city’s annual Martin Luther King Day event on Jan. 20, 2014.

“Our city is blessed to be filled with so many individuals who embrace altruism, giving their time and talents to help those in need. The Humanitarian Award provides us with a way to recognize those selfless contributions that have greatly impacted our community,” Sandy Springs Councilwoman Dianne Fries said in a press release.
