The Captain Planet Foundation will present its annual Benefit Gala on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Georgia Aquarium. The charitable evening will raise funds for the foundation’s programs, which promote and support hands-on educational and stewardship projects for children.

Each year, the Captain Planet Foundation Gala present awards to individuals who are recognized for their extraordinary environmental stewardship and change-making. This year’s awardees include:

* Erin Brockovich: Consumer advocate, author and consultant who was the force behind the largest environmental injury settlement in U.S. history (made famous in a movie starring Julia Roberts).

* David Suzuki, Ph.D., and Tara Cullis, Ph.D.: Husband-and-wife scientist/environmentalist/author team who are forceful spokespeople about global climate change and founders of the David Suzuki Foundation.

* Tom Szaky: Founder and CEO of TerraCycle, which makes consumer products from post-consumer waste primarily collected in U.S. schools and through 2.6 million members of his “trash brigades.” Capri Sun juice pouches become pencil cases, circuit boards become picture frames and clocks, and Oreo cookie wrappers morph into kites.

* Charles Orgbon III: A high school sophomore and CEO of Greening Forward, a company he founded when he was 11 and which provides environmental advocacy, action resources to thousands of young people around the world.
