Cynthia Briscoe Brown achieved a landslide victory over incumbent School Board Chairman Reuben McDaniel in the Dec. 3 runoff for the Atlanta Board of Education Seat 8 At-Large.

Brown had 9,885 votes and McDaniel had 5,125, with 177 out of 177 precincts reporting.

Brown’s election has large symbolic significance for Buckhead parents. Brown is the former co-president of North Atlanta Parents for Public Schools. McDaniel enraged many in the Buckhead community by initiating an investigation into allegations of “institutional racism” at North Atlanta High. The investigation found the allegations to be unfounded.
