Brookhaven Police seized more than 60 pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic stop.

An officer was patrolling on Clairmont Road Dec. 3 when he stopped a Mercedes Benz that had windows darker than the state’s tint regulations. When the officer walked up to the car, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the city reported.

The officer searched the car and discovered large bags containing more than 60 pounds of marijuana. Police also seized a loaded handgun, more than $2,200 in cash and designer handbags, Brookhaven officials said.

“These drugs are off the street thanks to the great initiative of our patrol officers,” Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura said in a news release.

The suspect was identified as Thomas Estaba, 43, of Stone Mountain. He was arrested on multiple drug and firearm charges and taken to the DeKalb County jail. Additional charges are pending.
