The Atlanta Police have two suspects in custody after last night’s gun battle in the Old Fourth Ward left the neighborhood rattled. At least 68 shots were fired in a moving gunfight from along Parkway Drive.

Here’s a narrative from the APD report:

On Dec. 19 at approximately 11:54 pm, two off duty officers working extra jobs in full Atlanta Police uniform were seated in a marked Atlanta Police vehicle at the Zaxby’s parking lot. The off duty officers heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Parkway Drive, then observed a black four-door sedan backing northbound on Parkway Drive at a rapid rate of speed with one or more of the occupants shooting back down the road. When the occupants of the sedan saw the police car, they started shooting at it. The officers then returned fire. The sedan and gunfire ceased and officers were then able to take two of the three occupants of the sedan into custody.  The identity and whereabouts of the third occupant and what prompted the incident have not been released.

Derrick Newell and Marcellus White have both been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless conduct.
