Former WSB-TV news anchor Monica Pearson is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech during the city of Sandy Springs’ community celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the city announced.

Sandy Springs’ ninth annual MLK holiday event is scheduled to begin at  10 a.m. on Jan. 20. The celebration is set for Sandy Springs City Hall Council Chambers at 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500, the city said in a press release.

As part of the celebration, Sandy Springs’ 2014 Humanitarian Award will be presented to honor an individual who has shown outstanding commitment to community service in the city.

The Spalding Charter Elementary School Choir will provide music for the event.
