Ice and snow are believed be behind the collapse of the historic Daughters of the American Revolution building in Midtown on Wednesday night, according to 11 Alive.  The house, which had been abandoned, was built in 1911 and stood on Piedmont Avenue across from Piedmont Park. A person in an adjacent duplex had to be rescued after the incident.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials said they are expecting road conditions to remain treacherous into Thursday morning even as the storm moves out of the state. GDOT is urging the public to avoid all but emergency travel until at least mid-day Thursday.

Raleigh, NC had its “Atlanta moment” yesterday as the fast-moving winter storm swept across the city and caused chaos and gridlocked that looked eerily like what happened in Atlanta on Jan. 28. Commuters all left work at the same time causing massive back-ups on the interstates and streets around Raleigh, while hundreds of cars were abandoned.
