It’s Crossover Day at the state capitol, which means a marathon session for the Georgia Legislature to get bills passed in the House or Senate. If not, the bill is dead for this legislative session. One of the pieces of legislation we’ll be watching closely is Senate Bill 270, which would create the city of Lakeside. The bill was approved in the Senate and is now coming over to the House, which has a number of options in front of them, including substituting the Senate Lakeside bill for two other cityhood proposals – Tucker or Briarcliff.
A high-rise senior citizen apartment building was evacuated overnight because of a kitchen fire in one of the units, according to a report from the AJC. No injuries were reported in the fire, which broke out at Baptist Towers in the 1800 block of Myrtle Street in southwest Atlanta.
The canopy over the old Georgia 400 toll plaza northbound will be dismantled beginning Tuesday, according to a report from 11 Alive. The worker was originally scheduled to begin today, but was postponed by rainy weather. Traffic will continue to flow in the old cruise lanes while workers take down the canopy over the cash lanes.
Le Petit Marché in Kirkwood has moved to its new location at 1986 Hosea L. Williams Drive, according to a report from What Now Atlanta. The beloved breakfast and lunch spot has moved across the street to 2,000-square-foot spot.
