Atlanta Public Schools is working with the Atlanta Police department after four kidnap attempts near schools over the past three weeks. The abduction attempts occurred near Hope Hill Elementary in the Old Fourth Ward, Long Middle School in southwest Atlanta, and Jones Elementary and Washington High west of Downtown.

While the attempted abductions have not taken place on school property, APS officials are warning parents and children to be observant and call 911 immediately if they see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. Parents are also encouraged to speak with their children about how to deal with strangers.

Earlier this week, APS made the decision to launch a safety campaign targeted toward student walkers and
bus riders. The district plans to distribute robo-calls, send letters to parents including safety tips, and produce
radio and television public service announcements.
