Atlanta firefighters were busy overnight tackling two fires – one that damaged 17 Atlanta Police Department motorcycles and another that heavily damaged a home under renovation – and sent to firefighters to the hospital – on Lullwater Road in Druid Hills. Both reports come from our media affiliate CBS46.

Sparks flew when an officer attempted to start up his motorcycle at the Atlanta Police Academy shelter on Southside Parkway. As the officer grabbed a fire extinguisher, flames spread to other bikes. That’s when the officer called the fire department. No one was injured in the fire.

Two Atlanta firefighters were hospitalized overnight after they were injured during the fire on Lullwater. The fire was at a home under renovationand had been vacant for two years. Firefighters entered the structure after knocking down flames, but as they worked to extinguish hot spots, a portion of the ceiling collapsed trapping a fireman. The injured firefighter suffered a minor burn to one leg. A second fireman injured his ankle during the attempt to free his fallen crew member. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
