Gov. Nathan Deal on April 29 signed into law a bill that expands the HOPE grant program for technical college students. House Bill 697 provides full tuition for technical college students in certificate and diploma programs with a GPA of 3.5 or greater.
Deal had promoted the proposed increase in March at a Perimeter Business Alliance luncheon. “We have to have a reliable and qualified work force,” he said.
“HB 697 will provide more Georgians with access to the education and training they need to be prepared for the jobs of today and tomorrow,” said Georgia Chamber President and CEO Chris Clark in a press release. “We appreciate Gov. Deal and the General Assembly’s strong bipartisan support for this legislation strengthening our state’s skilled workforce and providing greater opportunity for future generations of Georgians.”
