The Fulton County Director of Health and Wellness has issued an alert about the increasing number of active infectious tuberculosis cases associated with three privately-run homeless shelters in the city of Atlanta – Central Night Shelter, Atlanta Mission and Taskforce for the Homeless. Screenings are underway with the support of the Georgia Department of Public Health to conduct screenings at the facilities. So far, 16 cases associated with the shelters have been diagnosed since the beginning of 2014 and are being treated. There is no threat to the public at large since infection with TB requires prolonged (at least 8 hours) sharing of air in an enclosed space.
Paces Properties, which is developing the Krog Street Market in Inman Park, has purchased the 250 Piedmont building in Downtown with plans to transform the 20-story office tower into apartments. According to a report in the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the former SunTrust Bank building will have more than 300 units.
