Holiday travelers may experience some relief from construction-related traffic jams as the Georgia Department of Transportation has announced it’s scaling back construction project lane closures across the state to accommodate expected heavy travel during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

There will be no lane closures related to construction on any interstate or major federal or state highway from noon,Friday, May 23, to 5 a.m.,Tuesday, May 27. However, lane closures may remain in place on less travelled routes or for emergencies.

The department says it also expects all lanes of I-85 southbound near Shallowford Road to reopen by Friday after being closed for several days for repairs to a ruptured water line.
