Sandy Springs Police detectives have charged 26-year old Shaniece Harris after her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the arm. The child is in stable condition at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital.

According to police, Harris is charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer and reckless conduct. Harris’s ex-boyfriend, 30-year old Marcus Phillips, was also charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The firearm belonged to Phillips.

The 4-year-old grabbed the .45 caliber hand gun off a dresser in a bedroom and accidentally shot himself. The incident happened Friday, Nov. 28, on Brentwood Way. The child was alone playing with the gun when it discharged. The injury is not life threatening.
