Brookhaven Police Detectives have identified Clendon L. Sims, 51, of Atlanta, as the person shot in the burglary attempt that occurred Dec. 3 at Ashford Creek Drive. Sims died from injuries last Friday evening.
The investigation continues and no charges have been filed at this time.

Update, Wednesday, Dec. 3, 3:15 p.m.:

Brookhaven Police have determined that an Ashford Creek Park resident shot a suspect in the head during an apparent burglary attempt Wednesday morning. The burglary suspect is undergoing surgery.

According to police, the burglary suspect rang the doorbell several times. When he did not get an answer he forced his way into the residence where he was encountered by the resident, who fired one shot striking the suspect once on the head.

All involved are accounted for and the resident has been cooperative with detectives, police say. The statement provided by the resident matches the evidence found at the scene, according to police. The investigation is active and no charges have been filed.

The Brookhaven Police Department found a person with an apparent gunshot wound, while responding to a burglary in progress on Ashford Creek Drive off of Ashford Dunwoody Road at about 10:20 a.m.
The person has been transported to a local area hospital for treatment, police said, adding details about the status are not known.
