Brookhaven Police and Target will host the first Shop with a Badge event Dec. 13 to help children from the surrounding areas to purchase holiday gifts for themselves and their families. During the in-store shopping event, the children are paired with police officers and other public safety professionals who will help in picking out holiday gifts for the kids’ families. The participating children were referred to the program with the assistance of the Brookhaven Boys and Girls Club.

Target’s Heroes & Helpers program fosters strong community relationships by pairing public safety officials with in-need youth to shop for the children’s families during the holidays, Officer Carlos Nino said in a press release. This community giving and service event is one way Target gives five percent of its profits, which equals more than $4 million per week, to communities, he wrote.

The Brookhaven Police Department’s Support Services Division, Chattahoochee River 9-1-1 Authority, Target Store Team Leader and Ziggy Asfaw from the Boy’s and Girl’s Club will be available to provide brief remarks during the in-store shopping event, which will take place at the Target located at 2400 North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta at 7:00 a.m.
