About a year ago, residents near an extended-stay hotel lobbied to convince city officials to close the facility known as the Hub.

The hotel, on Barfield Road, provides student housing for the Art Institute of Atlanta.

The facility had received notice of a zoning violation due to the fact that it was housing students longer than the zoning code allowed. Neighbors complained that the students’ presence have caused increases in crime and noise.

Since that time, representatives for the facility have been fined for violating fire and safety code violations. Over the summer an Art Institute student was slain and another student has been charged with his murder.

This month, the Art Institute of Atlanta is moving students out of the facility, which it does not own, though a spokeswoman for the school declined to say where or exactly when they were leaving the Hub.
