Matthew Weber, 21, of Marietta, was arrested Dec. 22 and charged with two armed robberies in Sandy Springs.

The North Metro SWAT Team on Dec. 21 assisted in the negotiation and arrest of a Marietta man, who police say robbed a Kroger of cash and two cartons of cigarettes that morning.

Matthew Weber, 21, was taken into custody after a standoff with the North Metro SWAT Team in a wood line off Roswell Road at Northridge Road on Dec. 21. Police said Weber robbed the Kroger located at 8331 Roswell Road of two cartons of cigarettes and ran, before being caught a short distance later in a wooded area.

He placed a handgun to his head, police said, and negotiators successfully convinced him to give up without incident. Weber was taken to the Fulton County Jail on charges of armed robbery for both the robberies at Walgreens and Kroger. Weber also has two active warrants out of Forsyth County for burglary and possession of marijuana.

Weber said he had “bills to pay and kids to provide Christmas gifts for,” according to the police report for the Dec. 18 armed robbery of Walgreens. He emptied both cash register drawers, taking a total of about $274 and two packs of Marlboro Blend No. 27 cigarettes, the report said.
