The Atlanta City Council has fast-tracked legislation to Mayor Kasim Reed for his signature to call for a public vote on a $252 million infrastructure bond referendum. The council voted unanimously this afternoon to proceed with the referendum on March 17, even as public hearings continue.
City Councilmember Alex Wan said the project list for the referendum is still under consideration, while the council is also still waiting for a final report on current infrastructure conditions.
The city faces an infrastructure backlog of more than $900 million to repair or improve roads, bridges, sidewalks and upgrade critical public buildings and facilities.
Public information meetings on the bond referendum will continue through February from 6 to 8 p.m. at various locations around the city, including the Atlanta Botanical Garden on Jan. 13, Atlanta City Hall on Jan. 20, Atlanta Speech School on Jan. 27, Atlanta Fire & Rescue Station #28 on Jan. 29 and Shepherd Center on Feb. 17.
