World War II veterans from Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Brookhaven are among a dozen Georgia vets who will receive the French Legion of Honor this month, French officials in Atlanta have announced.

Farish C. Chandler Jr. and Lloyd E. Pittman of Sandy Springs, Frank W. Blackston of Dunwoody and William B. Johnson of Brookhaven are scheduled to receive the country of France’s highest honor during a ceremony Jan. 27 at the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building, French officials said Jan. 13.

The award recognizes eminent services to the French Republic. American World War II veterans who fought on French territory qualify to be decorated as Knights of the Legion of Honor, according to a press release from the French consulate in Atlanta.
