Police have released the identity of the pedestrian killed in an accident that shut down all lanes of I-285 in Sandy Springs Feb. 6, Sgt. Ron Momon with Sandy Springs Police says.

Jarvis Eddie Paul Cohen, 28, of Mableton, Georgia, was struck and killed on I-285 in Sandy Springs Feb. 6 at about 4:30 a.m.

Jarvis Eddie Paul Cohen, 28, of Mableton, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene of I-285 eastbound at New Northside Drive at about 4:30 a.m.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation and police at the scene, Cohen was involved in an earlier multi-vehicle crash, and when he got out of one of the wrecked vehicles he was hit by at least one other vehicle, Momon said.

One vehicle traveling eastbound on I-285 was struck from behind by a Chevy Tahoe. The Chevy Tahoe then struck the median wall. The first vehicle, a BMW X5 SUV, stopped in the right emergency lane. Cohen got out of the Chevy Tahoe, and walked across the interstate to the right emergency lane. He then attempted to walk back across the interstate toward his vehicle and was struck by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Cohen is not being charged at this time.
