The Atlanta Business Chronicle got the first look at a preliminary site plan for a redeveloped Underground Atlanta. South Carolina real estate investment firm WRS, Inc. purchased the property for $28.5 million in December.
Tentative plans for redevelopment include mixed-use retail and housing and possibly a supermarket – an amenity long-requested by Downtown residents and workers.
Scott Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of WRS, said that the development could include 1,000 residential units (some of which might be for student housing), a 65,000 square foot supermarket (possibly a Publix, although he wouldn’t confirm), a hotel and possibly even luring back some classic Underground tenants like Dante’s Down the Hatch fondue restaurant.
