State Rep. Alan Powell, R-Hartwell, has introduced a bill that would subject Internet-based car services like Uber and Lyft to rules and regulations like any taxi cab or limo service, including registration and licensing. According to the AJC, similar legislation was attempted last year but failed to move before the end of the Legislative session. Taxi drivers and lawmakers around the world have been trying to rein in car services like Uber because of the disruption of the industry.

The Georgia Aquarium has come under fire after a video surfaced on YouTube of its new vice president of dolphin training, Jose Luis Barbero, allegedly abusing dolphins in Spain. Aquarium CEO Mike Leven released a statement supporting Barbero and claiming the video might have been altered or doctored. The video purportedly shows Barbero kicking and hitting at dolphins at Marineland in Mallorca, Spain. You can read Leven’s full statement at this link.

The South Downtown MARTA Makeover project team seeks public input on final design plans to improve the appearance of and experience at the Five Points and Garnett MARTA stations. The public is invited to stop by the Five Points MARTA station  to provide feedback and input on Feb. 19 from 7 to 10 a.m. and 4;30 to 7:30 p.m. Follow the signage to the area where you can leave your feedback.
