Four blocks of open spaces and vacant buildings along East Howard Avenue in Decatur will be transformed on May 2 for a dance event designed to promote the proposed Decatur EcoArts District.

danceDanceDANCE! will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday on the stretch of East Howard between Trinity Avenue and the Ice House Lofts. East Howard will be closed between North Candler Street and Hillyer Place. Parking is available at the Decatur Recreation Center at 231 Sycamore Street.

Highlights of the event will include:

  • Dance Performances by Zoetic Dance Ensemble, Decatur City Dance, Core Performance, Dance Brasil and many more
  • Pop up Artist retail by Root City Market
  • A life size model of an artist micro house
  • Food and rink from local restaurants
  • Opportunities for the public to dance

This event is designed to launch a larger conversation around creating the Decatur EcoArts District. The goal of the district is to build inclusive communities by shaping neighborhood redevelopment so that it is environmentally sustainable with built in opportunities for creative expression.
