The rutted and potholed lane that some city officials joke is the “most hated road” in Sandy Springs will soon be getting a facelift.

City Council voted May 5 to award a $1.7 million contract to Lewallen Construction to add sidewalks, curbs, retaining walls, drainage and erosion control measures on 1.2 miles of Morgan Falls Road from Roswell Road to Overlook Park, city officials said. The road then can be repaved.

Lewallen was not the lowest bidder, but the other companies didn’t meet the city’s requirements, said Sharon Kraun, communications director for the city.

“This has been several years in the making,” she said. “It’s a complicated project.
