Traffic is already heavy on I-85 at Monroe Drive.

The crash of a single-engine plane leaving DeKalb-Peachtree Airport onto I-285 east at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard has caused traffic gridlock around the metro. Authorities have warned motorists to avoid the northern arc of I-285 – possibly for up to eight hours – as NTSB and other officials investigate the crash that killed the four airplane passengers.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has give tractor trailer drives approval to use the Downtown Connector as an alternate route to avoid the Perimeter, so expect to see more gridlock Downtown. Local officials were warning drivers to stay off the roads around the metro if at all possible. Be sure to check Georgia 511 for all the details on the traffic situation around Intown.
