Eve Erdogan, an attorney and real estate investor, today qualified to challenge incumbent Linley Jones for Brookhaven’s District 1 City Council seat.

Erdogan is an executive at Chamblee-based ACT Investments, which invests in multifamily real estate projects, Erdogan said. None of those projects is in Brookhaven, she said.

Erdogan said she is running to bring “checks and balances” and a “separation of power” to city government, expressing concern that Jones was “appointed” to her seat by current Mayor Rebecca Chase Williams. “I do like her and I do think she has a pretty good chance of winning,” Erdogan added about Williams.

Williams became mayor earlier this year and nominated Jones to take her council seat. The other council members appointed Jones.

Clarification: Since the publication of this story, Erdogan clarified that her comments about another candidate’s chance of winning was a reference to Williams, not Jones.
