The Brookhaven Police Explorer Post 514, which formed six months ago, earned first place in the “unknown trouble” event during a Metro Atlanta Competition for Explorers, which was hosted by the Smyrna Police Explorers.

Officer Cory Begeal, who started the Sandy Springs Police Explorers, said the organization gives young men and women between ages 14 and 21 a way to network with law enforcement officers.

Officers from as many as 40 or 50 different agencies see the Explorers who compete at Winterfest, a regional police explorer competition held annually in Gaitlinburg, Tennessee. The upcoming competition is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2016.
