The city of Brookhaven is throwing itself a birthday party.

The city will celebrate its third birthday with a cake on Dec. 17.

Residents are invited to stop by City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 17 for a slice of birthday cake.

Members of the first Brookhaven City Council display a birthday cake celebrating the opening of the city. They are, left to right, Councilwoman Rebecca Chase Williams, Councilman Bates Mattison, Mayor J. Max Davis and Councilmen Jim Eyre and Joe Gebbia. The council held a pair of meetings Dec. 16 and 17 to start the city. The Dec. 17 meeting began at 12:01 a.m., the first minute the new city was authorized to do business.

  1. It takes about FIVE years to get any organization started. To the naysayers, the “trolls,” the personal attackers, the anonymous, the lazy, the corrupt, the cheap, the quitters, the quick fixers, etc. I have just one BURNING response: BE PATIENT!! All beginnings are messy, and we’re only through a little more than one half of our own necessarily “messy” stage. Remember why we’re all here, form our organizations accordingly. “Begin with the end in mind. Do first things first.” And Happy Birthday, Brookhaven!!–Tom Reilly
