Three men are in DeKalb County jail facing charges of home invasion from Dec. 5, police say.
Police say Joshua Sims, 32, of Lithonia; Samuel M. Alexander, 25, and Demario R. Flowers, 27, both of Decatur, and a fourth man who has not yet been arrested broke into a home in the 1900 block of Saxon Valley Place in Brookhaven on Dec. 5 at about 3 a.m.
The men were armed with a handgun as they forcibly entered the occupied home, Major Brandon Gurley said in a press release. Brookhaven police officers responded to an alarm call and a 9-1-1 call from inside the house. The officers quickly surrounded the neighborhood and wood line. The three males were arrested less than seven minutes after the first call to police, and investigators are following strong leads towards arresting the remaining offender.
Sims is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of cocaine.
Investigators believe this incident was related to a burglary at the same residence on Nov. 2, during which a car key was stolen. Sims is a suspect in that burglary, Gurley said, and this investigation indicates the men returned to steal the car.
“Patrol officers have been carefully watching the area since the original burglary, and their diligence paid off” Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura said. “It is another example of the outstanding collaboration between our community and the officers who patrol there every day.”
