Unless you’ve been living under a space rock in a galaxy far, far away, then you already know that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens in previews on Thursday, Dec. 17, before official opening day on Friday, Dec. 18. Advance tickets went on sale back in October, but you still might be able to find a seat at one of the many screenings taking place this weekend around Intown.
Cinemas showing the new “Star Wars” film include Midtown Art Cinema, Regal Atlantic Station, AMC Phipps Plaza, AMC Dine-In Theatre Buckhead and AMC North DeKalb Mall.
Die-hard fans have already sold out a special event at Regal Atlantic Station, which will screen all of the “Star Wars” films in a special marathon on Dec. 17 starting at 4 a.m. May the Force and plenty of bathroom breaks be with you on that 14 hour journey.
Also on Dec. 17, Atlantic Station is also hosting a skate night with “Star Wars characters” (Darth Vader, Stormtroopers and more) along with music from the movie from 4 to 7:30 p.m., a kids’ craft area from 4 to 8 p.m., and the first showing of “The Force Awakens” at 7:45 p.m.
The seventh installment in the series, “The Force Awakens” stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max von Sydow. The story is set approximately 30 years after the events of “Return of the Jedi.”
