Sandy Springs Fire Rescue fought two fires overnight into Wednesday morning, a spokeswoman for the city said.
A fire that broke out Tuesday night, just after 11 p.m., heavily damaged at least six apartment units and caused smoke damage to another six units of the Avalon on Abernathy apartment complex, Sharon Kraun said in an email.
One woman was injured when she jumped from a third-floor unit, Kraun wrote. The woman was taken to Grady hospital.
Fire investigators believe the cause of the blaze related to cooking.
Shortly after 7 a.m. this morning, personnel at Sandy Springs Fire Station Number Two responded to heavy smoke coming through the roof of the Slopes BBQ restaurant on Johnson Ferry Road.
The fire heavily damaged the restaurant, with smoke impacting neighboring storefronts in the complex. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Owner Glenn McDaniel said the restaurant would fill its catering orders through a second Slopes location. He said online accounts had opened for customers to make contributions to Slopes employees to help them cover holiday expenses who will be out of work while the restaurant is repaired.
