Brookhaven and Dunwoody will holding swearing-in ceremonies for their new mayors during city council meetings on Jan. 4. Newly elected council members will take oaths of office at the ceremonies as well.

In Brookhaven, John Ernst will become mayor at a 10:30 a.m. event at City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road. Re-elected council members Linley Jones and Bates Mattison also will be sworn in. DeKalb County Judge Mike Jacobs will conduct the oaths of office. Light refreshments will be served.

In Dunwoody, Denis Shortal will be sworn in as mayor at a 6 p.m. City Council meeting at City Hall, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 103. Also being sworn in are re-elected council members Lynn Deutsch, John Heneghan and Terry Nall. The oaths of office will be led by Judge Richard McCully of the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. The council meeting has no other items on the agenda, but there will be a period open to public comment.
