The cities of Brookhaven and Sandy Springs are holding Martin Luther King Jr. Day events today to honor the legacy of the Atlanta-born Civil Rights leader.

The free Sandy Springs event, starting at 10 a.m. at City Hall, features a keynote speech by Fulton County Chairman John Eaves and the announcement of the honoree of the city’s annual Humanitarian Award. For more details, click here.

The Brookhaven event is a 5 p.m. dinner honoring some of the first African-American students to attend the formerly all-white Cross Keys High School in the 1960s. Tickets are $10. For more details, including one former student’s story, click here.
