State Farm is now hiring some 1,500 people in metro Atlanta and will be bringing those employees to Dunwoody and the Perimeter Center by the end of the year.

Construction of State Farm’s new regional headquarters on Hammond Drive near the Perimeter Center is on track to be completed by the end of 2016, said spokesman Justin Tomczak. The new facility will house approximately 8,000 employees. State Farm currently has approximately 5,000 employees in metro Atlanta.

“I was out there [recently] and 14 stories are done and there are seven more stories to be built,” Tomczak said. “What I really like about this building is the tie-in with the Dunwoody MARTA station.”

The company is also hiring new entry-level employees at a higher minimum wage — $15.50 an hour. Employees already working for the company who were not making that wage will receive a pay increase to match that $15.50. The new wage represents a 15 percent increase – or $2.59 — over State Farm’s previous minimum wage, Tomczak said.

“We’re seeking applicants for full and part-time positions in customer service, claims and sales, but we’ll also be recruiting for IT and other departments, and some positions requiring bilingual skills,” he said.

Most of the 1,500 being hired in 2016 will work in existing metro Atlanta offices, Tomczak explained.

Most of State Farm’s employees are expected to work from the new complex when it is completed.

The new building will be 600,000 square feet and include a three-level connector with a walkway that will keep employees from having to cross the street at the corner.
