Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton won the Super Tuesday primary vote in Georgia, while Atlanta voters approved a 1 cent sales tax extension for water and sewer infrastructure projects.
At 10 p.m., Trump had 42 percent of the vote — outdistancing his competitors Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio in second and third place, respectively
Clinton was beating competitor Bernie Sanders with 72 percent of the vote at 10 p.m.
Mayor Kasim Reed released this statement about the extension of the sales tax.
“I am very pleased that the voters of the City of Atlanta today approved the reauthorization of the Municipal Option Sales Tax (MOST) for another four years. This “yes” vote will ensure dedicated funding to maintain the city’s critical water and sewer infrastructure and will help prevent residents and business owners from seeing water bills increase by as much as 30 percent. I am grateful that the residents of our city have once again chosen to protect Atlanta’s future.”
