Sandy Springs City Council on March 29 will set the date of the special election to fill its vacant District 3 seat. The proposed election date is May 24, which is also the state’s primary election day.

The election decision was recently added to the agenda of the March 29 council meeting, which was specially called to review proposed zoning code changes. At that meeting, the council also will decide the timing of the qualifying period for candidates, according to city spokesperson Sharon Kraun.

Graham McDonald resigned from the District 3 position earlier this month to run for a state House seat. At least three candidates have announced runs for the council seat, including banker Chris Burnett, zoning activist Brian Eufinger and airline pilot Joe Houseman.
