Manuel’s Tavern in Poncey-Highland reopened Saturday night to celebrate its 60th anniversary and show off new renovations. The favored watering hole of journalists, politicians and locals is currently in a “soft opening” opening for dinner only at 6 p.m. Owner Brian Maloof said on Manuel’s Facebook page that they are in the process of hiring new kitchen staff and hope to have the tavern back up for lunch soon.
The birthplace of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. is temporarily closed for repairs after structural issues were discovered over the weekend. The National Park Service released a statement on Sunday said there were issues with the flooring of the circa-1895 house on Auburn Avenue that had to be addressed before public tours could resume. The statement did not give a timeline for those repairs.
Travelers flying Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines today are facing serious headaches after a power outage caused the worldwide failure of the carrier’s computer system. According to a report in the AJC, the airline said it cancelled about 300 flights due to the problems caused by the power outage, and added that “delays and cancellations continue.” The airline resumed only a handful of flights initially as it gradually brings systems back online, and expects the number of departures to grow throughout the day.
