North Atlanta Parents for Public Schools will hold a roundtable discussion about the state’s Opportunity School District proposal on Sept. 21 at Buckhead’s Sutton Middle School’s Northside Drive Campus.

The OSD proposal, which voters will decide on the November ballot, would allow the state to temporarily take control of schools deemed to be chronically failing. In a press release, NAPPS notes that no schools in the North Atlanta cluster on the list for possible state takeover, but adds that “state takeover of other APS schools could impact the District’s budget and ultimately cluster funding.”

State Rep. Tom Taylor (R-Dunwoody) recently wrote in Reporter Newspapers in favor of the Opportunity School District proposal, while state Sen. Elena Parent (D-Atlanta) wrote in opposition.

The NAPPS discussion will be held Sept. 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Sutton Middle School, Northside Drive Campus, 2875 Northside Drive. For more information, see
