A ballot question allowing the state to take control of “chronically failing” schools–including two in Brookhaven–failed with voters Nov. 8. The statewide Opportunity School District question drew 60 percent “no” votes, according to unofficial results from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
A proposal from Gov. Nathan Deal, the Opportunity School District would have required a state constitutional amendment to go into effect.
DeKalb County’s Montclair and Woodward elementary schools in Brookhaven were among dozens on the potential Opportunity School District list.
