Brookhaven City Hall can remain at its current site at 4362 Peachtree Road through 2024 after an agreement was reached with the property owner.
A lease between the city and Delta Life Insurance Co. in Atlanta, owner of the building, was set to expire in December 2019. City Manager Christian Sigman told the City Council in January that the property owners were considering redeveloping the property, leading to a possible hunt for a new City Hall. That hunt is no longer necessary.
“This lease extension ensures stability of service for city residents and a stable working environment for city employees. It also affords the city favorable lease terms until such time when it is prudent to invest in a permanent City Hall,” said Sigman in a press release.
The city’s lease payment for the Peachtree Road site for 2017 is $294,175.01, according to spokesperson Ann Marie Quill. The three-story building houses city departments, administrative offices and the City Council chambers. The current site takes in 24,000 square feet.
The lease extension must be approved by the Brookhaven City Council and is on the agenda for the April 12 meeting at 7 p.m.
