The GDOT posted the reminder above on its electronic billboards this morning. Yes, it’s eclipse day and the celestial spectacular will happen around 2:35 p.m. this afternoon, Aug. 21. Although Atlanta is not in the path of totality, we’ll still see about 97 percent coverage of the sun by the moon. Make sure you have your viewing glasses handy!

Qualifying for the City of Atlanta Municipal General Election opens Tuesday, Aug. 22, and continues through Friday, Aug. 25, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day. The election, which will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, will fill the offices of Mayor, City Council President, City Council Members, Board of Education Members and tMunicipal Court Judges.

Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United fans got a sneak peek at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday ahead of opening day on Aug. 26. Team owner Arthur Blank, Gov. Nathan Deal and Mayor Kasim Reed also held a news conference at the stadium to celebrate the opening.
