MARTA CEO Keith Parker will step down from his post to take a job with Goodwill Industries, according to the AJC. Parker served nearly five years as MARTA’s chief executive and is widely credited with turning around the troubled transit agency. MARTA said it will launch a nationwide search for a new CEO.
UPDATE: Atlanta Police have arrested a suspect who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman in an incident that began in Carroll County. According to WSBTV, the woman, a West Georgia College student, told officers she was kidnapped at knifepoint from a supermarket parking lot in Carroll County and sexually assaulted along the interstate before being brought to the Ansley North Apartments on Monroe Drive in Atlanta. The victim used pin locators on her iPhone to alert her family to her location.
A rally and march in protest of the Confederate monument on the Decatur Square will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, starting at 6 p.m. Called “Nothing Great About Hate: Remove the Symbol to White Supremacy from Decatur Square,” the event is being used to call upon the DeKalb County Commission to remove the Jim Crow-era “Lost Cause” monument from the grounds of the old county courthouse.
