More than 33,000 customers in DeKalb and Fulton counties were still without power at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning – four days after Tropical Storm Irma brought down trees and power lines. Some Decatur and Kirkwood residents have been told by Georgia Power it will be Friday night or possibly as late as Sunday night before power is restored. You can see the outage map here.

Extensive damage to power poles, uprooted trees and snapped power lines are making restoration of power more difficult, but Georgia Power crews have been working around the clock.

DeKalb County Schools cancelled classes for Thursday, while City Schools of Decatur Schools was forced to bus students from Clairemont and Westchester to other facilities for the day. College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center remained closed.
