‘Tis the season for holiday celebrations, which often means the exchange of gifts. The concept behind giving gifts is a compassionate one. By paying attention to your friends’ and families’ wants and needs, you can show them that you care and bring a smile to their faces.

Of course, finding the perfect gift has its own challenges. Personally, I try to source as many gifts as I can from small and independent shops that carry products made by local artisans. When you shop locally, you support not only the business owners and their families but also the craftspeople and artists who pour their hearts and talents into their creations. Your money goes right back into the local economy, and helps to support your community.

I visited some of my favorite independent shops and compiled this guide full of items for your consideration. Whether you are buying for a fashionista, an occultist, a foodie, a pottery=lover, or a kid, there’s something for everyone from these local shops.
