An SUV involved in two overnight shootings in the City of Atlanta has been found and an arrest made. Mikeal Demond Callaway has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, burglary smash and grab, criminal damage to property, theft by taking and burglary in the first degree.

According to a statement from the Atlanta Police Department, the silver SUV had been painted black to disguise it.

Police say it is the same SUV involved in the unprovoked shooting of two motorists early Thursday morning – one on I-20 near the Hamilton E. Holmes exit and the other on Fulton Street in Mechanicsville. Police are still investigating to see if Callaway was involved in the shooting death of a man as he pulled into his subdivision on Flat Shoals Road in DeKalb County. The man, whose wife and children were in the car, when a silver SUV pulled up and shot into the vehicle.

The vehicle was also linked to an armed robbery on Auburn Avenue on Feb. 20.

According to the APD statement, officers requested assistance from the Georgia State Patrol in conducting a traffic stop on the SUV on Moreland Ave near Custer Ave in Southeast Atlanta and took Callaway into custody.  Atlanta Police Investigators impounded the vehicle and recovered a handgun from inside.

In connection with the SUV’s recovery, APD also raided a home on Wee Kirk Road in DeKalb County.
