When Angela Harris was transitioning between being a ballerina and being a choreographer, she realized how challenging it was for new choreographers to have their work produced. This gave her the impetus to found Dance Canvas, an annual event that features the work of new choreographers.

This year, in celebration of Dance Canvas’ 10th anniversary, 10 choreographers who are alumni of previous events will return to present new work.

Angela Harris will collaborate with Vanessa Chisholm on a performance that infuses ballet with tap. Juel D. Lane will perform a solo based on the artwork of Ernie Barnes. Dana Woodruff form Kennesaw State University will present a piece entitled “Vectors.” Pittsburgh based Annalee Traylor will present an all male quintet of dancers featuring new music by slowdanger. Marci Lefkoff, former choreographer for the Atlanta Hawks dance team, will present a perception changing pas de duex. And that’s just for starters. Other choreographers include Lonnie Davis, Jennifer Davis, Britt Fishell, Lindsay Fritz and Lara Davis. Fifty professional dancers will participate in the evenings’s programs.

Dance Canvas has partnered with Arts at Tech and the Ferst Center for the Arts for the second year. The shows will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24. Tickets and information are available at this link.
