The former Clermont Motor Hotel has been reborn as Hotel Clermont, complete with hip roof top bar, lobby café and bar and a French-American brassiere called Tiny Lou’s.
The Clermont first opened its door in 1924 as a motor lodge and apartments. Tucked underneath, the Lounge was sometimes a restaurant and sometimes a venue featuring burlesque acts of the day. Tiny Lou was a favorite dancer in the 1950s, which is where the new restaurant got its name.
The Clermont fell into disrepair in the 1980s and was shuttered for decades until until Oliver Hospitality, Charlestowne Hotels and The Indigo Road Hospitality Group partnered up to bring the landmark back.
And back it is.
The 94-room boutique hotel features eye candy for the retro crowd, harkening back to the roaring 20s with a splash of 70s glam. The rooms come in three sizes, including suites, rooms and bunkrooms, which are perfect for groups of friends. The hotel is also pet-friendly.
The hotel offers fun packages like “Never Want To Leave,” which offers 24-hour check in and out and a round of drinks in your room. There’s also the “Cinema Vérité,” which offers behind the scenes tours of the Plaza Theater, tickets to a film, pre-show drinks and post show ice cream sundae.
As for Tiny Lou’s, the menu is French with a touch of the South with a culinary dive into foie gras, escargot, pomme frites and steak, Blue Ridge Trout Almondine, Vidalia Onion soup and much more. Chef Jeb Aldrich (formerly from 4th and Swift, Noble Fin and Canoe) is a firm believer in local food.
Bar manager Jordan Moore presides over the hotel’s three bars, including the Roof Top Bar with its amazing city views, astro turf surface and serving up cold rum drinks and street food. Play your cards right (or live in the neighborhood) and you’ll get a coveted leather key chain that gets you to the top for free.
And, yes, the Clermont Lounge is still the place for dancing, bands, drinks and performances from the Lounge Girls. And now, after a night of debauchery, you can go upstairs and sleep it off.
