City of Atlanta residents have been receiving this postcard in their mailboxes from Central Atlanta Progress touting the benefits of The Gulch project.

The Atlanta City Council is expected to vote on resolution at its Oct. 1 meeting requesting the city auditor to identify and recommend a third-party firm to conduct an expedited, independent analysis of the Gulch Project in Downtown. The city council put the breaks on CIM Group’s proposed deal, which would be partially funded with city-backed bonds, to build a massive mixed-use development of offices, homes, hotels and retail on the below street-level warren of parking lots and rail lines adjacent to State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Residents who checked their mailboxes this weekend likely found an oversized postcard from Central Atlanta Progress urging people to lend their support to the “Greenlight The Gulch” campaign. The council meeting begins at 1 p.m. at City Hall.

Atlanta-based Scofflaw Brewing Co.’s plan to take its brand to the United Kingdom hit a rough patch late last week when a public relations firm promised free beer at bars across the country, but only if the drinkers were supporters of President Donald Trump. The backlash on social media was fierce. Scofflaw released a statement saying it was “appalled’ by the inaccurate press release and social media campaign released by the UK agency. “Those posts were released without Scofflaw’s knowledge or approval,”  Scofflaw owner Matt Shirah said in a press statement. “While we definitely have country roots, no one at Scofflaw Brewing or those associated with our brand, is now or has ever been, rooted in hate. We do not tolerate hate — that’s just idiotic.”
